Janisch:Hans Christian Andersen

A carriage is heading towards Copenhagen. Inside are the girl Elsa, her mother, and another passenger who introduces himself as Hans Christian Andersen. A lively conversation quickly develops between Elsa and Andersen. He tells her the fairy tale of his life, specifically how the son of a shoemaker became a celebrated writer. Heinz Janisch paints a sensitive portrait of Andersen and his literary work. Maja Kastelic has developed a congenial illustration concept for this story, combining the possibilities of a picture book with elements of a graphic novel. Thus, the life and work of H. C. Andersen are presented for the first time in a picture book as a fascinating total work of art.
