Jakob kann zaubern

A picture book for children aged 3 and up about the emotional world of kids during their parents' separation. Jakob goes to the carnival at kindergarten dressed as a magician. On the way home with his sister Nina, he feels as if he can really perform magic - he can influence the traffic lights, the sliding doors, the railway barriers, everything! Jakob is delighted with his magical powers. At home, however, the atmosphere is not as cheerful. Dad has washed Jakob's teddy bear, making it no longer fluffy. Jakob wishes for his dad to be far away. When the parents tell the children at dinner that they are separating and Dad is moving out, Jakob feels very uncomfortable. Things will be quite strange at home without Dad. Did he somehow conjure up the separation? The book takes children and their emotional world seriously, discusses magical thinking even in preschool age, and illustrates the complex relationship dynamics within the family during a parents' separation.
