Andreas is in his early 20s, a graphic designer, and homosexual. A discreet, cheerful, and romantic young man who enjoys going out with his friends. Life could be so beautiful. However, Andreas lives in 1930s Berlin, and the brown plague is spreading at a rapid pace. This magnificently illustrated graphic novel tells in a very sensitive and impressive way about the long-tabooed fate of homosexuals during the Nazi era and long after. Andreas is imprisoned by the Nazis because of his sexual orientation and eventually sent to a concentration camp. He survives the camp, but liberation and the post-war period bring him little relief, as the Nazi laws regarding homosexuality remain in effect for a long time. Andreas is arrested and abused again. The only way out of this suffering is to conform to the norms of a narrow-minded society: marrying a woman.
