Jack Black (Viz)
English, 2011Product details
Please note that the content of this book mainly consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free online sources. Jack Black is a character that appears in the adult comic Viz. The cartoons featuring him are currently drawn by Simon Ecob. Jack is effectively a young amateur detective who, along with his dog Silver, seems to spend an eternal school holiday stay with his Aunt Meg in a constantly changing idyllic location in middle England. The time period ranges from the early 1930s/40s to the present day. Both the drawn style of the comic and the character are a parody of the Boys' Own-style character, who is virtuous but ultimately fascist in his beliefs and actions. There is more than one hint of Enid Blyton in the character of Jack Black, and the comic parodies the alleged snobbish attitude of the middle class as well as the outraged and sometimes hypocritical content of right-wing Britain.
