Product details

What is the situation of women in the 21st century? What forms of women's oppression have developed? Has the oppression of women always existed? How will the global economic crisis affect women? Christine Thomas provides answers to such questions in her book from a Marxist perspective. She argues that there were egalitarian societies in the past and that the oppression of women only emerged with the rise of class societies. Therefore, according to her, a society without the oppression of women is also possible in the future if class society is abolished. But how can this be achieved? How should we organize ourselves? Is it a struggle that can be fought alongside men? Are there common interests between women and men? On one hand, significant progress for women has been made in the last hundred years. However, despite formal equality in many developed capitalist countries, there can be no talk of real equality and social justice. In recent years, bourgeois governments, conservative forces, and political right-wing groups have increasingly attacked these achievements. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how, in times of crisis and exceptional situations, the burden particularly increases for women. At the political level, the right to free access to abortions is repeatedly under attack, as seen with the overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling in the USA. These are just a few examples of many areas where women struggle daily with the effects of oppression in capitalism. In her book, Christine Thomas outlines an approach to how the fight for concrete improvements for a part of humanity can be linked to the struggle for the liberation of all.
