Invictus

What happens when life completely falls apart due to injury, trauma, or illness? When all life plans suddenly become obsolete?

During his research at the Bundeswehr rehabilitation center, Tom Fiedler meets paramedic Nadja and paratrooper Murat. He accompanies them to physiotherapy, speaks with therapists, doctors, family members, and their friends. While the author struggles with his own fears and prejudices, he sensitively documents the connections between body and mind, the importance of friendship, and the impact of sports.

The Invictus Games are an international sporting event that creates a space for inclusion and diversity. "Invictus" means "unconquered." The term also embodies the motivation of the participating women and men to carve out a new place in life and not to be defined by the trauma they have suffered.
