AUTHOR: Joseph BeuysJoseph Beuys, who was born in Krefeld on 12 May 2021 and died in Düsseldorf in 1986, is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. He was a draughtsman, sculptor, action and installation artist, teacher at the Düsseldorf Art Academy (19611972) and political activist. Like no other artist of his time, he changed the nature, materiality and language of art and shifted the boundaries and tasks of art. He linked it to social processes and addressed questions of humanism, social philosophy, ecology, economics and anthropology in his work. Beuys also regarded his own life as material to be shaped. With his expansion of the concept of art and the concept of social sculpture, he became world famous. Beuys' guiding principle was that art should be effective on the social, political, spiritual and scientific levels and thus be an integral part of our thinking and acting.
