In a complex market environment, effective corporate communication can provide a crucial competitive advantage for small and medium-sized enterprises. However, many businesses focus on external communication while neglecting internal communication. Against this backdrop, the present guideline-supported interview study offers insights into the current state and development prospects of internal communication. The results indicate that for employees from Generation Y, the so-called 'Digital Natives', face-to-face communication is the most preferred method—this applies to both small and medium-sized enterprises in the digital and print industries.
