The work
International economic law is part of international law. In order to be able to classify its legal mechanisms correctly, Herdegen's work first presents the legal sources of international economic law as well as the general principles that apply to them. In the area of trade in goods and services, the GATT, the new WTO system, but also other international agreements and their modes of operation are then described. Further subjects of the presentation are international company law and international expropriation and investment law. Finally, the currency systems and international financial services are examined.
The textbook is an introduction that is intended to facilitate understanding of the order of international economic relations in the network of international law, European Community law and international economic law.

About the new edition
The new edition brings the textbook up to the legal status of June 2022. To this end, essential areas of the work have been redesigned and updated.
One focus of the new edition is the consequences of the current debt crisis and the Ukraine war for the global economy.
Some new developments in world trade law have also been added, such as the increasing importance of bilateral trade agreements.
