Interaction iconography

The iconography, as a method of content interpretation and analysis, traditionally refers to works of visual art. With interactive systems and their graphical user interfaces, new subjects await iconographic description. The endeavor of an iconography of interaction is realized on an inconsistent and dynamic foundation. Accordingly, the course of this dissertation leads to various research fields: to narratology, to structural and formal analyses, to image generation technologies, and deep into the art history of interactive images. Furthermore, numerous insights from usability research, software ergonomics, and cognitive psychology must be integrated.
