Integral safety plays a significant role in the design of motor vehicles, in survey results from vehicle users, and in reporting in specialized magazines and online. The development conditions are changing more rapidly due to new laws, rating programs, and CAE methods. A key focus of innovation is on the increasing automation of driving tasks and the phase that connects active and passive safety - preventive safety.

This book has served as an important reference for 25 years for everyone involved in vehicle safety. In the 5th edition, the growing importance of accident prevention and reduction has been addressed by including a dedicated chapter and new sections on telematics and radar technology in the sensor field. The chapters on vehicle safety assessment and occupant and partner protection have been extensively revised and updated. Additionally, the scopes of computational and experimental simulation have been integrated into the chapter 'Integral Safety in the Vehicle Development Process' and supplemented with new methods.
