What was a shocking realisation in ethnology in the 1980s is now a consensus: every ethnography is as much about "us" as it is about "them", whose world is being studied. But what exactly goes into ethnological writing? Last but not least, it is personal readings: No text is conceivable without other texts. For this volume, the editorial team of Edition Trickster approached 22 ethnologists with the question: "Which text has shaped your thinking?" The answers were unexpectedly diverse. The authors describe in very personal texts how certain films, ethnographies, graphic novels, an academic essay or a poem triggered this "aha moment" that had a formative effect on their ethnological thinking or even changed their life path and to which they have returned again and again ever since. Beyond academic reflection, this anthology is a pleasure to read, to look up, to browse and to enjoy - inspiration!
