Product details

Vervoordt's new book showcases living spaces designed with one primary goal in mind: to create harmony between East and West, between old and new. Since the 1970s, Vervoordt has traveled repeatedly to Asia, drawing inspiration from Buddhist art and architecture. Together with Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki, he has crafted the showcased living spaces. They have named their concept 'Wabi.' This term, originating from Japanese, refers to things that exist in a simple, natural state. The related philosophical-aesthetic concept comes from Zen Buddhism. For Vervoordt, the most important aspect is the impact that the purity and simplicity of a well-designed interior can have on the mental well-being of its inhabitants. It is a space where nothing distracts from the essential, allowing one to find inner peace. In his introduction, Vervoordt explains his approach, and for each design example, there is a brief text that articulates the spirit of the place and the design ideas. The photographs by Laziz Hamani allow the viewer to experience the beauty and naturalness of the spaces and immerse themselves in the 'Wabi atmosphere.' Living in complete harmony.
