Product details

The first biography of perhaps the most famous European publisher. With numerous photographs. Inge Schönthal is born in 1930 and grows up in Essen as the daughter of a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother. After her mother helps her father escape to the Netherlands in 1938, she marries a German professional officer a few years later. Inge spends her youth in Göttingen, where she attends balls and dance events in the academic milieu with her best friend. A stage that prepares her for the wide world she longs for. At nineteen, Inge grabs her yellow bicycle and rides to Hamburg, where she begins an apprenticeship in a photo studio in Eppendorf.

Soon, Inge becomes a sought-after photo reporter in the most important German media and cultural city of the post-war period. From there, she is sent around the world to portray famous personalities, including Hemingway, Picasso, and Simone de Beauvoir. One day, at a party in the Villa Rowohlt, she is introduced to the rising, leftist, cosmopolitan publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, and a unique love story begins. "Inge Feltrinelli was the last queen of the publishing world."

"When she arrived (usually dressed in orange), a ray of sunshine radiated from her. The vivacious, funny and loud, stylish, unconventional, charming, eccentric Inge."

"Inge Feltrinelli always proved to be a selfless friend; she never hesitated to share her global connections.".
