Product details
Cities have always been places where trade and production, work and daily life were physically and functionally integrated. It was only during the industrialization that building regulations were introduced to spatially separate these functions. But how necessary and sensible are regulations when industry is increasingly digitalized and emission-free, and is based more on innovation than mass production? What does the combination of work and life look like when mobility and energy consumption become more sustainable? And how can sustainable and socially just urban centers emerge in a fast-paced world shaped by digital disruption, migration, and demographic change?
Led by the Zurich architecture studio Hosoya Schaefer, the interdisciplinary research project "The Industrious City: Rethinking Urban Industry in the Digital Age" at Harvard University Graduate School of Design has explored these questions. In Industrie.Stadt, they describe ways to bring production back into cities. A new urban industry will shape and change our social, political, spatial, and economic environment. Industrie.Stadt illustrates new synergies between production, services, leisure, and living through the example of Switzerland's polycentric urban landscape.
On the 200th anniversary of the discovery of the South Pole, Antarctic Resolution is published, offering a high-resolution image of the hyper-monitored yet simultaneously neglected continent. A resolution advocating for genuine transnational and interdisciplinary collaboration brings together international experts and practitioners from fields such as science, architecture, engineering, history, political science, law, anthropology, literature, art, and technology for the first time in the Antarctic bibliography.
The holistic agenda of Antarctic Resolution culminates in the first comprehensive archive.
