The history and development of North American Indians is illustrated with approximately 500 postcard images and described with texts. During the "Golden Age" of postcards at the beginning of the 20th century, Germany was a center of postcard production. Over 20,000 tons of printed postcards were delivered to the United States each year, including a variety featuring Indian motifs. Contents include: postcards and their history, photography and printing techniques, Germany as a center of postcard production, Indian wars and displacement, family life of the Indians, women and children, life in tipis, customs, handicrafts, hunting and food preparation, religious customs, dances and burial practices, village life, totem poles, Indian tribes: Abenaki, Micmac, Maliseet, Iroquois, Menominee, Ojibwa, Ottawa, Potawatomi, Sauk and Fox, Seminole, Cherokee, Sarcee.
