Inconspicuousness

Following the phenomenological hermeneutics of objectivity (2006) and the phenomenological aesthetics of appearing things (2010), Günter Figal presents a book titled "Inconspicuousness," in which phenomenology, along with its subject—the phenomena—takes center stage. The definitions of space and spatiality developed in the book arise from careful observation and conscious experience. Thus, the book is committed to Husserl's idea that intuition is the sole source of knowledge. It is a remarkable work. Figal's flexible approach to phenomenological description and his keen attention to the horizon of classical phenomenological treatment of space and place together create a genuine meditation on the inconspicuous conditions of belonging somewhere and, in this way, of being.
