The works of Immanuel Kant continue to shape philosophical and social debates to this day. This may come as a surprise, as Kant has the reputation of being an inaccessible, dry systematist. A second look, however, reveals other sides: Kant polemicised against the philosophical tradition that shaped him, engaged belligerently in debates and took a lively interest in the current scientific developments of his time. His philosophy unfolds in these debates, so that even his three critiques by no means merely elaborate a preconceived system. Rather, through persistent work, they allow thinking to take shape that examines its premises and reconsiders them when necessary. For this very reason, Kant's texts are still an impetus to philosophising today.
