Netherlandish and French Paintings 1400-1480

With this publication, the Gemäldegalerie presents a comprehensive catalog of its early Dutch and French paintings for the first time. The Berlin collection is internationally outstanding and includes numerous masterpieces from the era, such as the Church Madonna by Jan van Eyck, the Middelburg Altarpiece by Rogier van der Weyden, and the Montforte Altarpiece by Hugo van der Goes. The entries for the 52 works are based on art historical and painting technology studies and have been created through interdisciplinary collaboration. They present a wealth of new insights into both the well-known masterpieces and the previously lesser-known pieces in the collection.
