Product details
The book begins with a discovery made by the artist R. H. Quaytman, who noticed upon closer examination of Paul Klee's drawing "Angelus Novus" from 1920 that Klee had mounted the image onto a 19th-century engraving that is barely visible, allowing it to be overlooked for decades by its owners - Walter Benjamin, Theodor W. Adorno, and Gershom Scholem. Annie Bourneuf explores the question of why this partially concealed sheet by Klee is significant, and what artistic, political, and theological constellations intertwine in this image from Walter Benjamin's collection, leading to a completely new interpretation of the famous work.
