Im Mittelpunkt der Mensch – 50 Jahre Deutsche Krebshilfe

Around half of the German population will develop cancer in the course of their lives. Helping these people and their families is the most important task of German Cancer Aid, which was founded in 1974. Mildred Scheel's almost revolutionary idea has achieved a great deal since then: not only has it helped to remove the taboo surrounding this widespread disease, it has also advanced research and treatment. To mark the 50th anniversary, Heike Specht takes a look at the history of this organisation, looks at the challenges of the future and gives prominent sufferers a chance to have their say.
