Chief Inspector Max Bischoff can hardly believe his ears when the head of the forensic psychiatry clinic in Dortmund calls him to share important information about a current case. A case that puzzles Max Bischoff and his partner Horst Böhmer. An unknown assailant seems to randomly break into apartments and houses at night, overpowering the residents. When he disappears again, he leaves a corpse behind. No one sees him arrive, and no one sees him leave. Most importantly, no one knows whether he chooses his victims according to a pattern or purely at random. And now the call from the Dortmund psychiatry. One of the patients there - a convicted murderer himself - has accurately predicted these murders. When Max Bischoff questions the man, he hits a brick wall.
