'Illness as Metaphor':

'Illness as Metaphor' is a scholarly book that addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa. It highlights the complex interactions between biological, historical, social, political, and cultural factors that influence the spread and perception of the disease. The first part of the book provides a comprehensive overview of the societal conditions and the catastrophic handling of the epidemic during the Mbeki administration from 1998 to 2003. The second part analyzes the aesthetic representation of these themes in contemporary South African literature, including selected novels and plays that deal with the challenges and stigmatization of HIV/AIDS. The works of Sindiwe Magona and Mike van Graan are particularly emphasized, as they address the alarming reality that men intentionally infect women with the virus.
