Product details

This work deals with the consumption of illegal substances in juvenile detention and shows that it is widespread there. Esther Bäumler successfully tracks the development of substance use over the course of incarceration using data from the DFG-funded Cologne research project 'Violence and Suicide among Female and Male Juvenile Offenders' and identifies, for the first time, predictors for drug use among juvenile detainees. Additionally, new findings regarding consumption patterns in detention are presented, which also address gender-specific differences. Attention is also given to the previously overlooked group of female juvenile offenders.

The Author

Esther Bäumler studied law at the University of Cologne, focusing on criminology, juvenile criminal law, and penal systems. After completing her first state examination, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Criminology at the University of Cologne and earned her doctorate under Prof. Dr. Neubacher M. A. She is currently completing her legal clerkship at the District Court of Aachen.
