The concept of workout loss given default

Since August 2007, following the burst of the real estate bubble in the USA, the discussion about the subprime crisis has intensified. Due to the economic situation, many borrowers are no longer able to service their loans. The banks can only partially quantify the losses incurred from the defaults of their borrowers to this day. The topic of Loss Given Default addresses this very issue. This credit risk parameter is used to determine the loss after a debtor defaults. Current research has produced numerous studies on measuring LGDs, but these are not sufficiently developed. The biggest challenges lie in identifying the influencing factors and the appropriate discount rate. To this end, the author presents various models and the resulting findings for further research.
