The Romans and Hermann the Cheruscan made the Tecklenburger Land region known since the year 9. However, it is not so much the history surrounding the famous Battle of the Teutoburg Forest that makes exploring Germany's northernmost low mountain range on foot so worthwhile today. What you can experience in the premium hiking region of Tecklenburger Land on eight Teutoschleifen, eight Teutoschleifchen, and a premium city walking trail is diverse: Scandinavian atmosphere, rustling forests, fairy-tale rocks, and relaxing waterways characterize many of the varied premium hiking trails and premium walking paths that lead to the gems of Tecklenburger Land. The Waldauenweg takes you high up with Hermann, while the Bevergener Pättken leads to one of the busiest inland waterways, and the Sloopsteener Seenrunde takes you into the Teutoburg Taiga. The Dörenther Klippen offer rock fantasies, while the Tecklenburger Bergpfad presents special viewpoints, and the Holperdorper leads into the green lung of northern Westphalia. On the Modersohn-Schleifchen and the first premium city walking trail in northern Germany, you can explore the half-timbered town of Tecklenburg: 6.2 kilometers with 174 meters of elevation gain lead to romantic spots and fantastic views. The Teutostadtschleife connects city history with nature enjoyment. After the round, Tecklenburg's historic marketplace invites you to take a break. While the Teutoschleifen range from 6.3 to 13.3 kilometers in length, the smaller siblings, the Teutoschleifchen, offer easier short routes between 3.3 and 7.5 kilometers. Varied family outings promise hidden "treasures" at the edges of six circular trails: both small and large geo-cachers can embark on exciting tours there. The extra chapter reveals where the caches can be found—and for beginners, how it works.
