Filimon Mebrhatom dared to flee Eritrea at the age of 14 because there is neither freedom of expression nor educational opportunities in the country - but constant surveillance by the state. Having narrowly escaped death several times, he reports on undignified transport conditions and conditions in prisons and refugee camps, human trafficking, police violence, torture - and many deaths.
It is his irrepressible desire for freedom that runs like a thread through his story and gives him the courage and hope to make his way to Europe.
