Product details
His career began shortly after the rock 'n' roll big bang: in 1962, Francis Rossi formed his first band, which became the legendary Status Quo in 1967 when a buddy named Rick Parfitt joined. In the seventies, they found their unmistakable style, which they have remained true to this day: down-to-earth, solid boogie rock with enormous head-bobbing potential, resulting in hits like 'Whatever You Want' and 'What You're Proposing'.
Quick-witted and lively, Rossi now talks about his life, which has had unbelievable ups and downs. Status Quo had their first hit in the flower power era with the psychedelic 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men', before they showed everyone in jeans and T-shirts that you don't have to dress up for big success. There’s no need for elaborate costumes or stage gimmicks when you have songs like 'Down Down', 'In The Army Now', or 'Rockin' All Over The World'. With the latter, they opened Live Aid in 1985, probably the biggest rock event of all time. Not for nothing did Bob Geldof say afterwards: 'Quo and Queen are probably the only two acts that everyone will remember later'. Status Quo had a total of no less than 65 hit singles and 32 albums, which brought millions into Rossi's coffers, but he also spent the money just as quickly.
Until three years ago, the creative axis of the band consisted of Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt, two edgy but very different types who were nevertheless known for being able to finish each other's sentences during interviews. Rossi reveals how his relationship with Parfitt, who died in 2016, really played out over the years. He also talks openly about his own demons, alcohol, and drugs, because for many years, Status Quo lived the cliché of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Rossi looks back on this today with a lot of self-irony, making "I Talk Too Much" a great contemporary document and a unique reading pleasure.
