This reading and writing course offers a systematic linguistic approach to writing that playfully implements and utilizes linguistic insights in a child-friendly manner. The materials support children from both educationally disadvantaged and advantaged backgrounds equally. The foundation is based on a written rather than phonetic analysis, focusing initially on about 90 percent of the German vocabulary. The approach consciously starts from the writing syllable, as distinguishing between long and short vowels can overwhelm and disadvantage children from migrant backgrounds and those from educationally disadvantaged families.

With the two workbooks 1 and 2, children in the first grade learn to read and write systematically. They are guided to write individual letters and to distinguish between vowels and consonants. Through two-syllable words, they become familiar with short and long vowels and practice pronouncing and understanding the words correctly. Pictures support them in this process. Children train their spelling skills by examining syllable breaks and deriving the spelling of monosyllabic words from disyllabic ones.

The practical guidelines explain the concept clearly and understandably. It includes a compact introduction to the linguistic background, a step-by-step guide for implementing the writing course in the classroom, and the necessary materials as photocopiable templates.
