How can it be that artists bask in their displayed queerness while gay individuals elsewhere can hardly dare to leave their homes at night – and no one cares? How can it be that the rich keep getting richer, the educated urban elite isolates itself in its ivory tower, while others are just happy to afford secondary education? And how, above all, can it be that the enlightened people in our Western societies fail to notice all of this or even promote it with a paternalistic special treatment?

Glenn Bech, born in 1991, a practicing psychologist, provincial gay man, victim of bullying, from a family that decent citizens turn away from in horror on airplanes, as he himself puts it, lays bare the wound of our Western, heterosexual, success-privileged arrogance – and he does so in a way that hurts. In his direct, poetic prose, he grapples with identity and identities, class society, social violence, and the systematic defamation and discrimination of homosexuals today, in the heart of Western Europe. On the other side stands the self-righteous prosperous citizen, who has no idea how privileged he actually is and is correspondingly blind to the other side. The essence: "If something is easy for you, that's nice for you."
