Ich blieb in Auschwitz

In 1943, the young Dutch-Jewish doctor Eddy de Wind and his wife Friedel were deported to Auschwitz. As prisoner number 150822, Eddy experiences the terror of the Nazis firsthand: the roll calls in freezing cold, forced labor in scorching heat, diseases, hunger, arbitrary shootings, and the cruelties that characterize camp life. Just before the Russians liberate the camp in January 1945, his wife is taken away from Auschwitz, but Eddy hides and remains behind. This is the story of the two – written in the Auschwitz camp. This harrowing document was published in the Netherlands in 1946. It is now available in German for the first time.
