With the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), the World Health Organization has placed the affected person at the center, rather than their symptoms. It has created a uniform language that transcends countries and disciplines, consisting of components of body functions and structures, possible activities, social participation, and relevant environmental factors. The ICF-CY takes into account the specific characteristics of developing functions and the unique life circumstances of children and adolescents. It allows for a differentiated and multi-axial description of impairments, delays, or atypical developmental pathways that are crucial for later physical functioning, activity, and social participation. Therefore, the ICF-CY provides the foundation for interdisciplinary planning and implementation.
