ICF and ICF-CY in speech therapy

The International Classification of Functioning, Health and Disability (ICF) is an internationally used classification developed to complement the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). It was adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2001 and defines components of health and some health-related components of well-being. What is special about the ICF is that it describes functional ability and disability from a biological, individual and social perspective. Since the ICF is legally binding as a concept for rehabilitation in Germany, the book has the following objectives: - to introduce the thinking and working methods of the ICF, - to describe the implementation of the ICF in clinical routines, - to describe the possibilities, but also the limits of the ICF for the rehabilitation of children and adults.
