ICCS 2022: International Comparative Study on School Socialization and Political Education. The release of ICCS 2022 begins on November 28. ICCS (International Civic and Citizenship Education Study) is the only international comparative study on political education that captures not only attitudes and intentions to participate but also political knowledge, while also examining political learning and socialization processes in schools. ICCS 2022 provides an analytical contribution that highlights the effectiveness of the school system and supports students in developing their roles as citizens.

A total of 24 education systems worldwide participated in ICCS 2022, including 21 from Europe. Two German federal states, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein, also took part with representative samples in ICCS 2022. The study was led in Germany by the University of Duisburg-Essen (Prof. Hermann Josef Abs) and the University of Leipzig (Prof. Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg).

The publication of the results will occur in two phases:

• On November 28, 2023, key student results will be published, focusing on political knowledge, willingness to participate, and attitudes towards the political system, social coexistence, and sustainable development.
• On February 22, 2024, the school as a context for political socialization will be the focus. In addition to further student results (regarding attitudes towards the EU and international cooperation), perceptions and attitudes of teachers and school leaders will be reported.

Overall, the volume "ICCS 2022. School Socialization and Political Education of 14-Year-Olds in International Comparison" offers an empirically analytical insight into the starting opportunities and preparedness of emerging citizens.
