Product details

One of the greatest speeches of the 20th century - for the first time as a bilingual book edition.
On 28 August 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke his famous words: "I Have a Dream" to thousands of Americans gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington on behalf of the civil rights movement. It was a dream of a future in which segregation would be overcome. And a speech that changed the course of history. One year later, segregation was abolished by law in the USA. In 1964, Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1968 he is assassinated.
Much has changed since then, but to this day King's dream has only been partially fulfilled. Racism and structural discrimination still shape the everyday lives of many black people. Not only in the USA. In a world of increasing racism, social division and propensity for violence, his speech is more topical than ever; politically and poetically it gets under the skin. Amanda Gorman, who impressed the world with her poem "The Hill We Climb" at Joe Biden's inauguration in January 2021, drew inspiration from Martin Luther King, among others.
In collaboration with Dexter King, son of Martin Luther King, and the Martin Luther King Estate, a bilingual edition is now published for the first time, set to the rhythm of the speech. An iconic contemporary document that is more relevant than ever.
"I have a dream - here now!".
