What do intellectuals think about their country, the region, the war? What has happened since the disintegration of the Yugoslav multi-ethnic state? What opportunities does the future hold? This book takes a multifaceted look at the past, present, and future of the Balkan region. The engagement of the 19 interviewees - journalists, poets and theater professionals, lawyers and theologians, philosophers and sociologists from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo - covers areas such as human rights and democracy, coming to terms with history, the situation of women, culture, religion, national identity and globalization. Through their view, Europe's common image of the region, which reproduces the eternal clichés of violence, hatred, feelings of revenge and war, is corrected. The many cross-references between the individual conversations give an impression of this.
