Die Vögel der Insel Sylt

During the bird migration periods in spring and autumn, Sylt is one of the richest bird habitats in Schleswig-Holstein. To date, 338 bird species have been observed here, including over 100 breeding bird species. It is surprising that 100 years have passed since the first comprehensive presentation of Sylt's avifauna by Hagendefeldt, without any further publication on the island's birdlife. Gerhard Pfeifer addresses this gap. With the help of annotated species lists, a current breeding bird list, and a directory of migratory bird populations, he documents the entire birdlife of the island. Furthermore, he presents a comprehensive study of Sylt as a breeding and resting place: building on an explanation of the diverse natural, historical, and economic conditions, Pfeifer examines ornithologically significant areas as well as current nature conservation issues and measures.
