Hugo Ball Almanach. Neue Folge 15

A newly discovered poem by Hugo Ball, the little-known 'Dada Geneva,' as well as Emmy Hennings, Carl Einstein, and Thomas Hürlimann, are the focus of the Hugo Ball Almanac 2024. The current almanac revisits Hugo Ball's antisemitic remarks, which led to the suspension of the Hugo Ball Prize by the city of Pirmasens in 2023, and attempts to contextualize them. At the beginning, however, there is a previously unknown early poem by Ball that is presented and commented on. While the often-overlooked Geneva Dada episode of 1919/20, for which Walter Serner, Christian Schad, and Gustave Buchet were responsible, is detailed extensively, a brief overview suffices for the disreputable end of Dadaism in the 'Prager Tagblatt' with the announcement dadaists Raoul Hausmann and Kurt Schwitters. Further contributions examine stylistic issues in the work of Carl Einstein, analyze Emmy Hennings' travel book to Italy 'Der Gang zur Liebe' from 1926, and highlight the influence of the French poet Lautréamont on Hugo Ball. The relationship of Swiss writer and Hugo Ball Prize winner 2014 Thomas Hürlimann to this is then discussed. The current volume also documents, as every year, the work of Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich. Finally, the review section discusses the latest publications on Hugo Ball and Dada.
