Two forms of massage using hot stones are currently widespread: LaStone massage and Hot Stone massage. The roots of both massages go back over two thousand years. They were known in both Chinese medicine and among Hawaiian and Native American shamans. In Asia, records indicate that therapy with hot stones was already practiced before the birth of Christ. The stones were attributed with a secret, special, and invisible healing power. In addition to these invisible healing properties, the physical characteristics of the stones, such as their ability to retain heat or cold, were used to alleviate various ailments. The combination of the primal energy of the stones, heat treatment, and massage calms, relaxes, and enhances metabolic processes in the tissue. Lymph flow and the immune system are stimulated, promoting the removal of metabolic waste products. Muscle tension is also relieved, leading to pain reduction. Significant effects have been observed in people suffering from chronically cold hands and feet. On the emotional, mental, and spiritual level, Hot Stone massages promote deep release and relaxation by dissolving energetic blockages. In Hot Stone massage, gentle, tolerable stimuli are primarily used. Therefore, cold stones are typically not employed, as strong contrasts are avoided. Today, Hot Stone massage has become a trend in the fields of cosmetics, wellness, and massage.
