Product details

Plato: Laches was written approximately between 399 and 393 B.C. It was first printed in a Latin translation by Marsilio Ficino in Opera, Florence around 1482/84. The first printing of the Greek original appeared in Hapanta ta tu Platônos, edited by M. Musoros, Venice 1513. The first German translation was done by J. S. Müller in Tu Theiu Platônos Dialogoi Hex, Hamburg 1736. This text follows the translation by Ludwig von Georgii from 1860. It is a new edition that includes a biography of the author, edited by Karl-Maria Guth, published in Berlin in 2017. The text is based on the edition: Plato: Sämtliche Werke, Berlin: Lambert Schneider, [1940]. The pagination of the above edition is included in this new edition as marginalia line by line. The cover design is by Thomas Schultz-Overhage, featuring the image Raphael, The School of Athens (detail). The text is typeset in Minion Pro, 11 pt.
