Product details

A municipality, five villages, various hamlets, individual farms, and outlying districts - Hittnau seems to largely escape the traditional notion of a "village." It resembles other scattered settlements in the Zurich Oberland, which also lack a clear center. Thanks to its first written mention in early July 905, exactly 1100 years ago, "Hittenouva" enters the light of (written) history early on; however, it takes several more centuries before the structures of the later municipality take on clearer forms. With the castle Werdegg, destroyed during the Old Zurich War, the church in Oberhittnau built only in 1708, and the factories along the Luppmenbach, Hittnau has several historical sites that have accompanied and shaped the growth of the municipality. These sites are the focus of the book, which describes Hittnau's long journey from a monastic settlement.
