Die Polytechnische Welt

"The Polytechnical World" is the third volume in the series that addresses the future development of the ETH main building in Zurich. Under the leadership of Uta Hassler, it examines the measures necessary to maintain the main building as a representative focal point of ETH. The volume presents a guiding vision for long-term structural development and demonstrates, through specific projects, how the original legibility and spatial quality of the building can be restored through targeted renovations and reconstructions in key areas. The challenges arising from the different construction and teaching concepts of several generations of architects are analyzed. Strategies for preserving and restoring the architectural qualities of the heterogeneous structure are developed to meet future demands.
