In the 1980s, a new wind began to blow in the offices of Austrian postmasters. Initially, privatization and liberalization were merely a gentle breeze, but the whirlwind of change quickly gained strength and turned into a storm of transformation. As a result of the restructuring associated with this storm, the postal service increasingly lost its character as a public service, and the public sector gradually retreated to its most basic guarantee responsibilities. Elements of private sector thinking and action have since permeated all areas of organizational structure and personnel management at what has now become the Austrian Post AG. The content of this book is to connect this storm of transformation with the subjective descriptions of the affected employees based on 16 qualitative interviews and to clarify how the changes that occurred during the liberalization and privatization processes in the Austrian postal service are perceived and evaluated from the employees' subjective perspective, and how they respond to these transformations.
