Product details
The time in which Hildegard of Bingen lived was a time of upheaval. There were the upper hundred, probably not even a thousand people in all of Europe, who had access to the abundance of food described by Hildegard. For example, the use of gold, diamonds, game, etc. Craftsmen, farmers, soldiers—essentially the majority of the population—had to make do with what the land or the forest provided. However, it can be assumed that for a large part of the population, wild plants were a part of their daily diet. This seems logical, as wild-growing plants require no care and are free. In this book, I present 55 recipes made from ingredients that were available to most people of that time. Additionally, the spices, vegetables, grains, fruits, and wild plants used in the recipes are described from the perspective of Hildegard of Bingen.
