Hila Amit

Dr. Hila Amit, an award-winning author and professional Hebrew teacher, has developed a groundbreaking and multi-faceted Hebrew textbook based on content-based instruction (CBI) and communicative approaches to language learning. Each chapter begins with a text specially designed and written by Dr. Amit that introduces various characters and topics. These texts serve as the foundation for the book's progressive approach and introduce the grammar and vocabulary of the lesson.

The first four chapters feature short texts adapted to the limited vocabulary of beginners. These texts gradually introduce the figures and characters who accompany the students throughout the book. The names of these protagonists—Stephanie, Mohammed, Tom, Nina, Ibtisam, Nathan, and others—reflect the diversity of the characters. In these chapters, students learn basic skills for introducing themselves, asking questions, and discussing their profession, place of residence, or contact information.

Chapters 5-10 present a set of six longer and more complex texts that depict multi-layered narratives. The texts represent versatile and diverse characters who challenge normative gender roles and family images, portraying non-heteronormative life models in their everyday lives. Most of the characters in the book are women and queer individuals. The author has carefully selected the type of job a character has or their family status to present modern and diverse characters that language learners can relate to today. The topics covered provide an engaging and progressive content-based learning experience, while grammar and vocabulary are taught in line with the topics and characters.
