Splitter dedicates a six-volume splendid edition to the master of science fiction H.G. Wells is, besides Jules Verne, not only one, but the ancestor and classic of modern science fiction literature. Some of his books are key works of the utopian futuristic novel, "The War of the Worlds" for example, "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and of course "The Time Machine". Over the decades they have been adapted, interpreted, copied, quoted and also satirized countless times. Only "The War of the Worlds" is extremely popular material, also and especially in comics, and has probably been adapted so often in the style of the respective time - from Orson Welles' legendary radio play version, which allegedly caused mass panic in the USA in 1938, to Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day" 1 & 2 (not to forget Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks!") - that the actual author was behind it.
