The ever-increasing levels of stress and intensity in endurance sports are increasingly leading to injuries, infections and overtraining, as a result of which athletes are unable to achieve their personal best performances at the peak of the season. There is still a lack of non-invasive methods in the everyday training process that allow an assessment of the regeneration state in order to prevent an imbalance in load and regeneration. Heart rate variability measurement enables the assessment of the vegetative balance of the autonomic nervous system and the course of the vegetative adaptation reaction to the training stimuli and could thus be used to optimise training control.
