The Marx-Engels Werke (MEW) are not only the flagship of Karl Dietz Verlag, but also an international brand and reference point for Marx's political discourse. The popularity of the writings is unbroken, and a revised edition of central texts is indispensable. It is not only the new findings of the scholarly-critical editions of the Marx-Engel Complete Edition (MEGA²) that make this necessary. The publisher would also like to free the works from the Procrustean bed of ossified Marxism-Leninism. The new edition of "Herrn Eugen Dühring's Umwälzung der Wissenschaft", or "Anti-Dühring" (MEW 20) for short, is the first step. At the urgent request of his contemporaries, Friedrich Engels analysed Eugen Dühring's work "Critical History of National Economy and Socialism", a task that was not always easy to digest. "It was an apple that you had to eat whole as soon as you took a bite. And it was not only very sour, but also very fat." As a result, a polemical text became a work with mass appeal, which, in Lenin's words, advanced to become a "handbook for class-conscious workers". To this day, the "Anti-Dühring" is regarded as the fundamental text of Marxism par excellence. The new edition of the "Anti-Dühring" aims to trace this metamorphosis; it contains the original text with an appendix that enables a text comparison as well as a historical-critical commentary.
