In the 19th century, Herrmann August Jacques Gruson (1821-1895) influenced the economic and social development of Magdeburg and far beyond like no other. The influence of this industrialist, patron, collector, ingenious engineer and natural scientist still radiates today. Who was this man? What shaped him? Why was he so successful? What influence did he have on the social life of the city? These and other questions were explored by the speakers at a symposium held in Magdeburg in 2022.
