The last years of World War I are a hard time for Viennese bookseller Oskar Nowak and his wife Marie. But the start of the new decade finally brings light back into the couple's lives. In 1920, customers return to the bookshop, and with the free-spirited friend Fanni, the 1920s take on their famous golden glow: nightly visits to coffeehouses and theater performances open up an unknown world to Marie.
